How to Connect to a Session

Session can be joined by clicking on the session's Title, users may need to download and open a file to launch the session. NB: Participants using Mac OS X 10.8.4 and later will be prompted to download and use the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher.  Additional information regarding the launcher and its use can be found on the Blackboard Collaborate website.

To Connect to a Session

  1. Click on the link to the Session.
  2. On the Room Details page click on Join Room

  3. If you do not have the Blackboard Collaborate Launcher installed you will be prompted to download it. Since the launcher is uses a known and stable version of Java, you do not need to install and maintain the system version of Java.
  4. A meeting.collab window appears, choose Open with Blackboard Collaborate Launcher and click Ok.

    For Mac users, the meeting.collab file goes to the download folder, choose the file from the downloads to open

    Note: A new version of the Collaborate Launcher for Windows has been released. Users may be asked to update to version 1.6 of the Launcher. If the Software Update dialog box appears as you attempt to start your session, please confirm by selecting Get Update from the dialog box.

  5. A security message will appear “Always trust content from this publisher”, click Run.

  6. The Blackboard Collaborate loading window will appear. If this is your first time logging into Blackboard Collaborate, you may encounter a connection speed window. Select your current connection speed and click OK.
